Some Presentation Suggestions

This is where you'll find suggestions for author presentations and an ever-changing list of events.

DISCUSSION OF SIGNS & WONDERS,JUST IMAGINE, or THE FATTENING HUT - including where I got the ideas for each book and the ways in which I chose to develop them. The art and craft of writing, including re-writing and all the elements of good fiction, will be examined. If time and space permits, there may be writing exercises and sharing of work. Appropriate for grades 7 through 12.

SCHOONER - A slide presentation that demonstrates how a book of this scope and complexity is conceived and developed from idea to on-site observation and photography to written manuscript to finished illustrations. This presentation is geared for large groups but can be simplified for smaller groups. A special journal writing workshop can also be part of any Schooner presentation. One can be designed as well with any of the following in mind: architecture and building, weights and measures, the economy, history and sociology.

I AM AN ARTIST grades K-3, 4-6
A workshop to stimulate creativity, validate the confident artist and help the reluctant artist feel comfortable with and understand the creative process. Look on the page for I AM AN ARTIST to find links to a lesson plan posted by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

POETRY WORKSHOPS - K-3, 4-6, 7-9 - three small groups. Sensory and oral exercises with a goal to reading ones own work aloud. The stress is on poetry as a written, visual and oral art form.

THE BIRTH OF A BOOK - IDEA TO FINISHED PRODUCT -3 small groups or 2 large groups, or 1 large group and 2 small groups.

I limit school visits to two or three a month.Rates are negotiable. Travel expenses are charged for any trip more than one hour from my home.
